A year ago today I started writing My Rhyming Adventure:
Dinosaurs. I had recently moved up to the north-east after taking control of my
mental health issues and wanted to be more proactive in my life.
I always wanted to write children’s books but in my mind
it was never possible and I constantly told myself I wasn’t good enough. The
mind can be the biggest critic but I wanted to create a book for my nephew.
Once I cleared my head and controlled my anxiety I found
the drive and enthusiasm to give my dream a go.
I felt an urge to start writing and ideas were flowing.
My nephew is obsessed with Dinosaurs and knows far more about them than I ever
will but I knew that was the first adventure I wanted my reader to go on.
I completed the writing and needed an illustrator. I
used upwork as my budget was low and found Beth. She brought the book to life
and I was so eager for it to be released I self published at lulu.com without
having the book quality checked…
Needless to say this was a mistake. The book
embarrassingly was riddled with grammatical errors and I updated it 4 times
before everything was correct. Purchasing copies inbetween only to find more
issues. Self publishing is hard! But my book was out there and I just wanted
people to read it.
